Liberty Tampa, Downtown Tampa; 0.95 acres -
Closed January 2018

The Liberty Tampa Brownfield site was first developed in the late 1930s or early 1940s for repair of heavy equipment.  In the 1970s the site was used for manufacturing components for barges and in the 1980s was used for the manufacture of aluminum doors.  A Site Assessment Report submitted in February 2017 detected no groundwater contamination.  Soils contaminated with petroleum compounds have been removed.  A Site Rehabilitation Completion Order dated January 16, 2018 officially closed the Brownfield site.  Redevelopment is complete for the Hampton Inn/Home 2 Suites 240-room hotel and parking garage with a small retail section that is anticipated to produce approximately 125 new jobs.Picture10

Spruce Street/Tampa Landfill #2, Westshore Area, Tampa; 3.42 acres -
Closed March 2018

The Spruce Street Brownfield site is located in Tampa’s Westshore area.  The site is located within the boundaries of an area known as the Old City of Tampa Landfill # 2 which was used for disposal prior to the mid 1960s.  Solid waste was removed from the property.  The Conditional SRCO contains engineering and institutional controls for soil and groundwater conditions.   The 5-story Novus Westshore apartments has been constructed at the site.  It is anticipated that at least 5 new full-time positions will be created at the complex.  This development was also issued an EPC Director’s Authorization (DA) for construction over an old landfill.  The DA requires passive landfill gas vents to prevent migration of gas from offsite parcels that still have buried debris.  Appraised property value has increased over $37 million dollars since the Brownfields project started.Picture6

Former Hudson Nursery, Carrollwood, Tampa; 10.34 acres-
Closed June 2019

For nearly 40 years, the former Hudson Nursery Brownfield site occupied 10 acres of land at the intersection of Floyd Road and Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa.  Use of the property as a nursery impacted the soils and groundwater with pesticides, arsenic and petroleum compounds.  Site rehabilitation is complete, and a Conditional Site Rehabilitation Closure Order from the EPC was issued June 26, 2019.  Engineering and institutional controls at the site provide protections to prevent human exposure and environmental impact from low concentrations of contaminants remaining at the site.   The site has been redeveloped into multiple restaurants and shops bringing an estimated 100 full-time and 150 part-time jobs.  Picture7Picture8
